An ESRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Social and Political Studies at the University of Edinburgh, Alexander Smith is an Australian citizen who in recent years has worked for Scottish Conservative Parliamentarians. Prior to coming to the United Kingdom to commence postgraduate research with the support of a British Chevening scholarship, he worked for two Liberal Members of Parliament Ð including a Federal Cabinet Minister Ð in Australia.
Alexander was President of the Adelaide University Liberal Club (1996-1998) before becoming State President of the South Australian Young Liberal Movement (1997-1999) and, in 1998, participated as the Liberal Party delegate during the Inaugural Visit to India of the Australia Asia Young Leaders Program.
